Parent/carer responses to the question :’ In your opinion what are the best things about Moorside Community Primary School?

We have had lots of kind and supportive comments the themes of the comments are can be seen below:

  • It’s a good school for the children to grow and learn
  • All of it
  • Teachers and the learning scheme for the children
  • Play area
  • Friendliness of staff
  • The teachers who are approachable and create a safe feeling for children
  • Dedicated staff, learning opportunities, engaging activities and great communication between staff and parents
  • The teacher/teaching assistants are always there to help my child when he struggles with things
  • The best things about the school in my opinion are the levels of communication and support for both pupils and parents
  • The one form intake
  • The afterschool clubs
  • Well informed on what the children are learning about

Parent/carer responses to the question :’ Is there anything that you would change about the school and how would you like to see the school develop?

Please note that these are all individual points, from individual parents/carers/families. However, as you can see, certain themes ad points crop up several times

Comment from parent/Carer

Our response

Uniform

-     Not to be too bothered about what they have in their hair

-     Picky on hair bobbles and shoes

-     The uniform is uncomfortable for young children to wear

This is the first experience that our children have of being part of the school community The uniform policy is reviewed annually and we will take into consideration the comments

The uniform changed when the children moved to the new building 4 years ago – the children were consulted on the uniform and voted to wear a tie

Attainment

-     A move away from reading on Myon  - we prefer to ready physical books and that is often overlooked

-     More focus on children just doing ‘ok’ i.e. not SEND/behaviour- those who are ok and need to be ‘pushed’ more

-     Teachers having more time for students in need of extra support

-     Have more focus on learning out of the classroom, enhancing the imagination , regular down or mindful managing life skills

Myon is just one of the ways in which pupils can access books – pupils also have access to physical Accelerated Reader books

Senior leaders meet with all teachers to review progress of all children. Across all year groups additional support is targeted to all groups of learners.

We use our Catch up funding across all year groups in addition to offering before and after school booster sessions (Y6)

We do try and make use of the outdoor environment whenever possible, for example, PE. We are continually looking to develop opportunities for pupils to make the most of our fantastic learning environment

Pick up/drop off time

-     Space to walk to pick children up

-     Car parking

Thank you for your feedback - we will monitor the situation and take into account this feedback when considering arrangements for next year.

We are restricted in the parking available on school site – this is available to pupils and parents with disabilities.

Rewards/Praise

-     Standardised praise would be good. I’ve had experiences of both my children getting the same marks in tests etc and the feedback being vastly different

We appreciate your feedback and will be looking to make sure that the marking policy and the behaviour policies are followed consistently.

Communication

-     More in school events for parents/chosen person to attend i.e. at the end of a topic. Children can share what they have learnt by hosting a presentation/coffee morning

-     Having a termly play and stay for parents to come and see what the children have been learning about

-     Too many texts

-     Speak in plain English not education system acronyms.

-     Lack of communication in regards to some things especially things that need donation for example only informing us of events sometimes a few days before they happen.

A good idea and we are looking to develop this in the next academic year.

This is definitely something that we would like to develop and can look into now that Covid restrictions are lifted,

We try to be give information that is accessible – but we will be mindful of this in future communications.

We try and ensure that timely information is given in various formats e.g. texts, letter, Seesaw.

After school  clubs

-  After school clubs as there is no option around Moorside

-  It would be good if school can run after clubs, same as breakfast clubs.

-  Better after school clubs. Currently only run till 4.10 but most people work until 5. Also the clubs that are on aren’t available to all years

-   Option to zoom the praise assemblies for those who can’t come in person due to work I am not able to come to school to watch if they get certificates but I could watch via zoom.

We do not currently run after school provision  - however due to the response of the parent survey we will carry a feasibility survey to see if there is sufficient demand across school to look into establishing after school provision.

The extra- curricular clubs have been re-introduced this year after Covid has impacted on our ability to provide these. Currently clubs are provided for individual classes or KS1, lower KS2, upper KS2. This is to ensure that we can staff the clubs appropriately.

A great idea to Zoom the PROUD assemblies – we could look to offer this

Bullying

The way you deal with bullying

We have an anti-bullying policy in place which is reviewed with the school council.

We hold an anti-bullying week and regularly review the procedures in place in school

We encourage any pupil and parents to come and talk to us about any concerns

Behaviour

-  More rewards for Nursery children

-  Standardised praise  - experience of children getting the same marks in tests, yet getting vastly different feedback

-   We will ensure that we will review the rewards for Nursery children

-   We have worked hard this year and standardising our expectations. Of course all children are different and praise can also be related to the progress that a child has made to achieve a certain level

Attainment

-  Be more prescriptive on what stage the children should be at given points in their school life.

-  Not as much homework. Have home time for playing and family time, not school work

We will make sure that this information is available to parents on the school website

Our homework policy follows the government guidelines for homework in primary school

SEN

-   Arrange SENDCO appointments with parents

-   Teachers having more understanding of ASD

Mrs Grant is available to meet with any parents who request an appointment.

We have a high number of pupils with ASD or on a pathway towards ASD diagnosis. We plan regular staff training and staff work closely with the school special needs co-ordinator and the Local Authority ASD team to support pupils with ASD
